What
is Rotary? The Salisbury
Rotary Club, founded in 1949,
is comprised of a group of business men and women devoted to community service. Our motto, as is that of Rotary International, is "Service Above Self". Our Club meets weekly on The Salisbury Rotary Club supports a variety of programs, and operates a number of annual events to fund these programs. To raise money, for example, it annually sponsors a Fourth of July Fireworks Extravaganza at Lime Rock Park from which all proceeds go towards scholarships; it has food auctions and hosts "A Night to Change a Life" an auction of fine arts, goods, services, and travel, to benefit the scholarshop fund.. As a nonprofit
organization, Salisbury
Rotary spends the money it earns. We donate funds to volunteer
ambulance
squads, libraries, daycare centers, and many social agencies throughout
our Northwest Corner of Connecticut communities and beyond.
Currently we have three strong scholarship programs in place. One is for High School graduating students in our area who earn College acceptance. A second is for students who want to enter the workforce immediately but who need some extra techical or vocational preparation in their chosen fields. (This latter program is called The Welcome Home Awards since the project is designed to foster the return of our Tri-State area's young people as talented, productive members of an adult community in which they grew as children.) The third is called the Back to School for Better Health Awards, and seeks to assist men and women in healthcare to improve their skills, status, and salaries; we also encourage people to enter the healthcare profession by studying at nearby facilities, by aiding with awards for tuition, insurance, daycare, books, and travel.
